ZuluSteel started as a rack of angle iron on a leased yard in Bulawayo's Belmont industrial sites. Fifteen years on we run four branches, ten processing services and a fleet that reaches every province — but the yard is still on the same street, and the desk still answers the phone.

2009
One rack, one bakkie
ZuluSteel opens on a leased quarter-hectare in Belmont with a single rack of angle and flat bar, selling to the fabrication shops within walking distance.

2013
The guillotine arrives
A 3 000 mm guillotine and a second-hand press brake turn a merchant into a processor. Customers stop buying full sheets to use half of one.

2016
Roll-forming line
The roofing line goes in, and ZuluSteel starts rolling IBR and corrugated to the customer's rafter length. End laps disappear from Bulawayo roofs.

2018
Harare branch
A branch on Coventry Road in Workington puts stock on the ground in the capital and opens up the northern contractors.

2021
Plasma table and weighbridge
CNC plasma profiling and our own weighbridge. Customers stop taking our word for the tonnage and start reading it off the ticket.

Gweru and Mutare
Depots in the Midlands and the east bring the branch count to four and put same-week delivery within reach of most of the country.

Weigh it, don't guess it
Every load crosses our own bridge and the ticket goes with the delivery note. If the mass is short, we credit it before you ask.
Cut to the length asked for
You are charged for the steel you specified, not for the drop we could not use. Nesting and offcut policy are on the quote, in writing.
One stock position
The desk sees all four yards. If it is not here it is there, and you get told which, not told to phone back.
Quotes the same day
A quote that arrives next week is a quote for a job somebody else already priced. Ours go out before the yard closes.
